Recently a website appeared at AtariBox.com that showcases off what appears to be a piece of wood-grained sided tech with the Atari logo on. Many people wondered if this was fake but Atari CEO, Fred Chesnais, told Gamesbeat in an exclusive interview at E3 that they are indeed working on a new console. Yep, you read that right. Atari is working on a new wood-grained console.
I’m afraid at this point we don’t know much, other than the console will be “based on PC technology” and that we will know more later in the year. The teaser site also states that this is a “brand new Atari product years in the making”.
Now it’s far too soon to start forging my own opinions, if this a modern console aimed at competing with the PS4 or the Xbox One, I’m fairly sure that it’s going to be a failure. I don’t want to sound negative but new consoles just don’t start well. This could well, in fact, be, another Ouya incident.
So yeah, that’s all we’ve got so far. Will this be a console made for modern gaming? Could Atari really compete with the new Xbox One X? Or, will it be a console to bring back the old games just like the recently launched NES Classic?
